Assemble

The age of digital surveillance has created a new host of threats to the first amendment right to assemble. Protestors are being identified through facial recognition, data collection, and video identification. Anything from the shape of an ear, the length of a stride, or the color of a backpack can be used to identify demonstrators and punish them for using their voice. Based on reporting with Privacy International, Assemble is an ongoing, research project that aims to create garment based solutions to these problems through the use of facial recognition obscuring print, transformative clothing, and functional designs that work together to amplify the voices of those fighting for change.
