Over the 167 year printing history of the New York Times, only 15% of their obituaries have been of women. Some of the most extraordinary women of our time didn’t receive their dues in the paper of record, a wrong that is being rectified with modern day publishing of past obituaries.

Overlooked is a 12 lbs dress made of 7 full scale oil and acrylic portraits on canvas paying tribute to the extraordinary women that began the New York Times Overlooked Obituary Project.

Research, reporting, garment construction and fine art are combined in the creation of an original garment that speaks to our culture of dismissing women, and how the vulnerability of shared experience can abolish it.
